He estimated that, should an agreement with the town be reached, installing the service would take “six months to one year.”
Mr. Reynolds told the council that Mr. Pancner had given him a copy of a sample ordinance which had been drafted for Madison County.
Mr. Reynolds said that he and Mr. McCarthy are reviewing the proposed ordinance, and have “tailored it somewhat to the needs of the town and the county.”
Council member William Wickens warned that he sees, “a serious mistake ... a disservice to the people of the county and the town” if a franchise for cable TV is awarded without competitive bidding. “There is a dramatic effect on services and rates when you compare competitive and non-competitive bids.”
VFD gets $3,000
Mayor Morehouse told the council that a letter from Chief Roger Roach and President Gene Leggett, chief and president of the Washington Volunteer Fire Department, requests a donation to the department to help them with the cost of their new Advanced Life Support ambulance. “They have spent a lot of money, and they need a lot of money,” the mayor said. “The council earmarked money, and it’s time to spend it.”
