People whose 1988 income was less than $18,576 and who had a child living in their home, may be eligible to lower their taxes or receive a refund of up to $874 by filing a federal tax return and claiming the earned income credit.
“Each year many people who are eligible for earned income credit don’t apply for it because they don’t know it’s available," Jack Petrie, Internal Revenue Service Director for Virginia, said.
