said that she had received calls from teachers and aides concerned about the changes proposed for next year.
The teachers who have been working for years with their aides “are upset about losing them. They thought the program was very successful, and the change seems to be overwhelming,” she said. She said the aides also were concerned that they might not have the skills.
“We want to do everything we can do to try to soften the situation,” Dr. Gangel said. He explained that the proposed changes would make it possible to bring the TMR student back from Madison, to provide dutyfree lunch for all teachers and to provide remedial education for kindergarteners and first-graders. “I’m sensitive to their concerns, but a TMR child benefits more from being in a classroom than being on the road. I will do what I can to accommodate the concerns," he said.

High school math teacher and teachers’ representative Helen LaCava said that the Rappahannock County Education Association would speak next week, but that she wanted to note Tuesday night that she appreciated the work that had gone into the preparation of the budget, “and I hope you and the supervisors will appreciate it. We have had a greater response to our thoughts and our requests on what we wrant included than we have in the past, and we w’ant that noted.”
Mrs. Massie announced that next Tuesday anyone who wishes to comment on the budget will be given three minutes to do so, and after everyone who wishes to speak has spoken, then those who wish to make additional comments will be allowed another two minutes each. Those w7ho call and let the School Board office know they wish to comment will be allowed to speak first, she added.
