The charter bus which carried the Panthers passed the store on its way to the games. A fund organized by Mildred Leake, Mike Leake and Huey Atkins raised $500 to charter a Blue Ridge Coach Lines bus for the team during the regional tournament. Along with the Comer Store, merchants and individuals who contributed to the fund included: Sperryville Exxon, Guy Foster, Sperryville Antique Market, Joe Hall, Country Manor Gift Shop and Deli, Old Hollow Grocery, Carl Payne, B & B Servicenter, Hillsdale Grocery, Mike Welch, Parkway Gift Shop, Sperryville Emporium, Roger Jenkins, Josephine Jenkins, John Eubank and Linda Dwyer.
