A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Mr. Darby served in the Navy for eight years.
He founded and was vice president of Advanced Technology Inc., an engineering and computer services firm. He has retired and sold his interest in the firm, which was bought by the Emhart Corporation. He is a member of the American Society of Naval Engineers and the Society of Logistic Engineers. He is chairman of the Board of Deacons of the Warrenton Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Darby formerly lived in the Marshall District of Fauquier County. While there he was active in the affairs of the Bellevue Farm Property Owners Association. He said that he regularly attended meetings of the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission.
Since moving to Rappahannock County he has not yet been involved in county affairs. “I’d planned to involve myself in the affairs of the community here, but not as quickly as it seems to be happening,” he said.
When he was asked about issues facing the county, Mr. Darby replied, “I like the rural character of the county and want to see that preserved. We need to apply the zoning ordinance consistently.
