The commission agreed at its first meeting last month to withhold licensing for pari-mutuel betting until 1990, including flat tracks and steeplechase events. Taking an innovative approach to planning, the commission members intend to hold public information meetings in the late spring, explained Roberts.
The meetings will be held “to find out what the public would like the horse-racing program in Virginia to be,” said Roberts. The new commission was expected to hold its second meeting Wednesday, March 15, in Richmond.
