For purposes of computing the earned income credit, members of the military must treat non-taxable benefits such as: family combat pay and combat-related benefits; subsistence (food) allowance; basic or variable quarters (housing) allowance; uniform allowance and mustering out payments, as earned income. If the value of their non-taxable benefits, plus their other earned income, exceeds $18,576, they are not entitled to claim the earned income credit.
