Trashy art on display
The Middle Street Gallery in Washington will open an exhibit of Recycled Art on Sunday, April 16 from 3-6 p.m. In addition to creations from recycled materials by county residents and artists, the exhibit will feature entries from student artists in the Rappahannock Anti-Litter League and You (RALLY!) first Recycled Art Contest. Litter coordinator Nina Stamer will announce the winners at the opening and award their prizes. She will also give a short talk on recycling opportunities in Rappahannock County. The public is invited to attend. Course record nets reward
Last year, the Fodderstack 10K Road Race offered a $ 100 prize for anyone, male of female, who broke the course records. This year, Virginia Savings Bank of Front Royal has upped the ante to $200, according to the race organizers. If either record is broken, the runner will receive the entire amount, if both records are surpassed, the two runners will receive $100 each. Course records are 31:26 for men, and 36:46 for women.
Wakefield’s annual auction
Wakefield School's annual benefit auction will be held April 15, beginning at 6 p.m., at Airlie House outside Warrenton. One of the highlights of the bidding will be an original painting of the Town of Washington by artist Helen Smith of XOinburg. Mrs. Smith specializes in creating tremendously detailed paintings of the towns of Virginia, and her work is certain to be a prized addition to any collection. The winner of the school-sponsored trip for two to Paris will also be announced. The school's students have been promoting this contest for weeks, and the winner will be announced on Saturday during the auction.
