The ball was a long pop to the outfield and as Deena Hitt was gathering the final out into her glove, she was smacked in the face by a stray ball. A little league team was practicing dangerously close; one of the kids hit the ball that caused Hitt to drop the fly.
Coach Leake appealed for an interference call; she got none. What she did get was rude advice from a couple of Clarke County men who told her, “Sit down and shut up, girl, because you don't know what you’re talking about."
Mrs. Leake refused to be der pressed, though. She complimented her team on their steady improvement and promised, “We’ll be ready for the next one on Friday at Brentsville.”
