Hoover Trail
hike April 15
Spring is in the air and the Fauquier County Hiking Club is taking advantage of some of the interesting trails in the Shenandoah National Forest.
The next hike will take the hikers to the 6.5 mile long Hoover Camp trail, which was the Rapidan River Camp used by former President Herbert Hoover as a summer fishing camp. Here he and Great Britain’s Ramsey MacDonald held meetings on world armaments in 1929.
President Hoover’s old lodge has been kept in good condition. The lodge is beautifully located at the junction of two streams that form the Rapidan River.
This circuit hike is an easy odb. Views from the Rapidan Road are particularly good in winter time. Anyone interested in this hike is welcome to meet Saturday, April 15 at 9 a.m. at the Fauquier County Parks and Recreation parking lot, 62 Culpeper Street in Warrenton. The next meeting of the club will be Tuesday, April 25 at 7 p.m. dt Shadow Lawn Center.
