Rappahannock’s County Administrater, John McCarthy,' has accepted membership on the Technical Advisory Committee for the Virginia Department of Waste Management. The 15-member committee will prepare regulations for the development of waste management plans by local governments or regional planning districts.
After July 1, 1992, a locality will not be able to get a permit for a landfill without having a plan approved by the Waste Management Board. Rappahannock is “well-positioned” right now with a new landfill which is not filling up as fast as some feared, Mr. McCarthy said, but when the county does have to get approval for using a new area, it will have to meet the new regulations.
The.plans will have to show that "consideration has been given to the handling of all types of nonhazardous solid waste generated in the region or locality,” according to the new law, and the “regulations shall include all aspects of solid waste man
