Race tickets at Snaps
Advance ticket sales for the Great Meadows Steeplechase race which will be held Saturday, May 6 will be available at Snaps in Flint Hill. There will be advance ticket sales only. Hours are Monday and Friday 10 to 2, Tuesday and Thursday 12:30 to 5 and Saturday 9:30 to noon. For further information call 675-3838.
Volunteer dinner planned
Rappahannock Retired Senior Volunteer Program will hold an appreciation luncheon for retired senior volunteers on Friday, April 14 at 11:30 a.m. at the Washington fire hall. Special entertainment is planned. Remember to wear your favorite hat. For more information contact Jeanie McNear at 675-3329.
Garden basket workshop
A basketweaving workshop will be held at Middle Street Gallery Artist Cooperative as part of the Spring series. The class will be devoted to making the perfect garden basket. Strong, light, one of a kind and suited for carrying your garden harvest and tools. Fee is $48 and includes all materials. The class will run from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 15.
RSTA to meet
The Rappahannock Save the Animals (RSTA) will hold their first meeting on Friday, May 5 at the Courthouse at 7 p.m. Any interested persons are urged to attend. “This is your chance to help do something,” said an organizer. For further information call Trish Drake, 675-3443.

Washington Baptist spring fling
The Washington Baptist Church will have its annual Spring Event on Saturday, April 15 during the Fodderstack Race. There will be on sale plate lunches, barbeque chicken, hotdogs, hamburgers, drinks, baked goods, Grandma’s Attic, plants, flowers and other items.
Middle St. classes
Middle Street Gallery has begun a weekly Life Drawing session. Each Thursday from 7-9 p.m. a model will be provided. This informal adult workshop is for the person who wants to explore figure drawing on their own. Each participant should bring their own drawing supplies. Please pre-register. The cost is $10 each session.
Toni White is offering a class in “Visual Images as Spiritual Guides: Reading Tarot cards.” All ages are welcome. Participants will begin to practice the ancient art of interpreting pictures for their spiritual guidance. Both universal and personal symbolism will be explored. Have a tarot deck? Bring it along. Recycled Art at gallery
The Middle Street Gallery in Washington will display works “trashy art” during its Recycled Art Show\ which opens Sunday, April 16, from 3-6 p.m. Entries for the juried competition may be delivered to the gallery on Thursday, April 13 from 3:30-6 p.m. Winners in the student division will be announced at the opening on Sunday. Litter coordinator Nina Stamer will present the awards, as well as speak on community recycling.
Retirement luncheon
The public is cordially invited to attend a luncheon in honor of Mr. Lewis S. Butler for his many years of service at Avtex. The celebration will be held at First Baptist Church in Washington and will be given by the Senior Choir. Dr. Horton to speak
Dr. Denise Horton will be speaking to the ministries of the Shiloh Baptist Association on Monday, April 17 at Alum Springs Baptist Church in Culpeper County. Dr. Horton, a clinical psychologist in private practice in Washington, specializes in alcoholic and chemically dependent families. Her address is entitled “Helping the Alcoholic Family.” The Shiloh Baptist Association includes churches in Rappahannock, Culpeper, Madison and Orange counties.
