'Who Framed Roger Rabbit'
The movie Who Franted Roger Rabbit will be playing at the Gay Street Theater on Saturday and Sunday, April 15 and 16 at 7:30 p.m. each evening. The movie stars Sigourney Weaver and Bryan Brown. Dian Fossey, stunningly played by Weaver, emerges as a dashing, courageous colossus of animal rights whose methods on behalf of her beloved, endangered gorillas may have gotten a wee bit extreme toward the end, but all in the name of a good cause. Fossey spent nearly two decades, on and off, in the mountains of Rwanda before she was murdered by an unknown assassin. We see highlights from her long years of study in Rwanda, when her dedication to preserving what she called “her” gorillas against poachers became a frequently ugly onewoman war. This film is well worth seeing for Weaver’s gutsy, beautifully shaded performance, for its African landscapes and for its glimpse, however incomplete, into a fascinating woman whose virtues and vices are still being hotly debated. The movie is rated PG-13. Admission is $13 for adults and $2 for children.
Lions benefit auction
The Rappahannock Lions Club auction is planned for Saturday, May 6, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Washington fire hall. Proceeds will be applied toward Rappahannock County Lions Club projects, including sight and hearing screening, seventh grade field trip, youth athletics, Bland contest, diabetes, senior citizens, mental health, scholarship(s), drug awareness and others. Donations of new, renewed and/or usable items are needed. Cash donations are accepted, however food and clothing are not acceptable. All donations are tax deductible.
