moved Go Go Gordon up to second, on the heels of Roaring Reef who had taken the lead under Jeremy Gillam. When Roaring Reef hobbled after the final fence, Gauthier took advantage and moved through on the inside to win by 3/4’s of a length.
Vertical Alien and Gerry Newman followed another five lengths back.
Though Go Go Gordon has run at three sanctioned meets, it was his first point-to-point and first win.
Upperville trainer Robert O’Brien has had the horse since he bought him as a weanling from Mrs. Randolph. O’Brien credited Gauthier with the horses’ winning performance. “Michel says take him here, take him there, do this, do that. I just go along,” he said.
The horse ran last week at. Aiken but finished nowhere; according to Gauthier. That race had fewer fences because fallen riders forced horses to race around them, and the horse lost his advantage because he ' makes up ground over fences.
As at Piedmont, Michael Harris on Jupiter took the early lead in the novice timber race which he kept two times around. He was followed by a tightly-bunched pack 15 to 20 lengths behind, headed by Straight Paths with Paddy Neilson and Young Rodney with David Bourke.
With 3/4’s of a mile left, Jupiter tired and Bourke made his move against Neilson as Bonnie Dawn moved up from behind. Bourke kept the lead over the last three fences, winning easily by 10 lengths.
Last year the horse won over hurdles at Old Dominion after going off course at Casanova and falling at Warrenton when he was tried over timber. According to Bourke, the
