In a reversal of the decision announced when he declared his candidacy for the governorship, 31st District Delegate Raymond R. “Andy" Guest Jr. announced Monday that he will seek re-election to his seat.
Del. Guest’s turnaround follows his announcement on March 30 that he was dropping out of the four-way race for the Republican nomination for governor. He cited a late start and inadequate campaign funding as the reasons for his poor showing in the race, where he consistently trailed former Sen. Paul S. Trible, former Va. Attorney General J. Marshall Coleman and bth District Congressman Stan Parris.
Last week, two of the Republican contenders for Mr. Guest’s seat, Robert J. Traister and Malcolm Trevor, announced they were quitting that race. Both alluded to the incumbent’s expected announcement that he would attempt a return to the House, where he has represented the 31st District since 1971.
