Mr. Gooch said Mr. Shepherd suggested the planners not create any new lot which won’t support a waste disposal system. “They would like us not to get into community septic systems,” he added.
Mr. Gooch reported that Mr. Shepherd also said that Washington is “blessed with better soils than other areas,” and he said the town should have a new soil survey done.
“Did he indicate why?” Col. Willis asked.
“To find out what existing septic fields have done,” Mr. Gooch said. “We have all these curbstone experts. Whenever a new building is proposed, everyone says “that’s the worst soil in town’.”
Mr. Neufeld asked if it would be possible to get a grant to have the soil study done.
“I think grants for that are pretty well gone,” Mr. Gooch replied.
When the revised ordinance was submitted to the Town Council, it called for no new private roads.
