Cooking course
registration is extended
The Culinary Hearts Kitchen cooking course, designed by the American Heart Association for people who want to learn how to cook exciting low-fat, low-cholesterol foods, will be offered Thursdays, Oct. 18-Nov. 8 by Rappahannck Extension Office from 10 a.m. to noon.
The four-week course shows step-by-step methods of cooking American favorites as well as international and ethnic foods. Students will learn how to cook meals low in fat, cholesterol, salt and calories, yet retain the natural flavor and zest of each dish.
The course offers a wide assortment of recipes and each step in the course is illustrated by more than 250 slides of mouth-watering foods that are easy to prepare and good for your heart. Sessions are included on cooking meats and poultry, breakfast foods, soups, fish, vegetables and baked goods.
“Culinary Hearts Kitchen is the ultimate course for anyone interested in a healthier lifestyle,” said Helen Smith, Extension Home Economist, who will be teaching the course. “It’s not just for heart patients, but for anyone who wants to learn how to take his or her favorite recipes and alter them so that they are really good for you.”
Fee for the course is $10 and includes instruction, copies of all recipes and taste-testing each sample recipe. For reservations or more information call Rappahannock Extension Office (675-3619).
