(Editor’s note: The following letter was presented to the Rappahannock County School Board at its Oct. 9 meeting. It was written by the Rappahannock County Elementary School Parent-Teacher Organization’s Curriculum Committee. More than 50 parents assisted in drafting the letter, according to committee chairwoman Laurie Marshall.)
As parents with children in Rappahannock’s public schools we are seeking ways to work with teachers, administrators and the school board to maximize learning among our young people. We are requesting the school board’s guidance in how we can be of greatest use to the elementary school.
We would also like to give encouragement to current developments in the school system’s approach to education. As you are aware, our rapidly changing world with its complex problems make multi-disciplined solutions more necessary than ever. We feel that the school system’s move to make Problem Solving, Interdisciplinary Learning and Cooperative Learning more central to the teaching of basic skills prepares our children well for the future.
