A salute to 4-H
- In this issue, we join with Americans across the nation in saluting 4-H during its annual observance of National 4-H Week.
In the more than 50 years since 4-H was organized as an adjunct of the Extension Service, millions of American youngsters have participated in the wide variety of programs offered under its aegis.
It has fostered leadership, and taught responsibility, and nurtured self-confidence in several generations of American youth. Though it is often thought of as a rural program, there are 4-H clubs active in many U.S. cities as well.
And all those youth, whether from country hamlets or city highrises, have benefited from their experiences in 4-H. The testimonials offered by some of the Rappahannock County youngsters now involved in 4-H tell the story better than we can.
We can only add that we wish the 4-H program many more years of continued success, and offer our thanks to all the adult leaders and Extension agents whose efforts have made that success possible.
