David Smith, the Democratic candidate for the 7th Congressional District, said during an appearance at Candidates’ Night held at the Warrenton Junior High School that his futuristic outlook is what sets him apart from mainstream Democrats.
The 34-year-old Methodist minister and president of a solar energy firm, challenging GOP incumbent D. French Slaughter Jr., addressed about 50 people who attended the candidates’ forum sponsored by the Fauquier Times-Democrat and the Fauquier County Chamber of Commerce.
Slaughter, who was invited to participate in a debate, was unable to attend due to a federal budget session.
“I want to go to Washington and make a change,” Smith said during his opening remarks.
