In 1946, Father Maurice was sent to the United States to assist in establishing new mission territory here, working in the U.S. Promotion until November of that year, when he was appointed as the pastor of Precious Blood Catholic Church in Culpeper.
The next year, in 1947, Father Maurice was again recalled to the order’s Belguim headquarters, where he served as Professor of Chinese, French and English. In 1952 and 1953, he served in the C.I.C.M. Theologicum in Louvain, Belgium, as Professor of Missiology and Languages.
Then, in September, 1955, Father Maurice was again asked to resume his missionary work, returning to Culpeper as the pastor of Precious Blood Catholic Church. In 1975, he was appointed Dean of Deanery IV of the Diocese of Arlington. In 1979, at the age of 76, Father Maurice resigned his fulltime pastoral duties at Precious Blood to become the chaplain of Bethany House, a diocesan retreat in Huntly.
Because of the increasing number of Catholics in Rappahannock County, he persuaded Bishop Welsh to establish Saint Peter’s Catholic Mission in Washington, becoming its pastor in May, 1981. He served as its chaplain until his retirement, at age 84, on Sept. 1,1987.
