Hard candies that are individually wrapped would ship well. Bulk candies may soften enough to stick together. Fudge, caramels, mints, divinity, etc. will soften and even melt.
Nuts that are vacuum packed and with antioxidants should be all right.
Dried beverage mixes — lemonade and other fruit-flavored mixes, iced tea, and special teas or coffees, especially those packaged in individual servings, should be safe and of good quality.
The weight of canned foods (juices, fruits, peanut butter, jelly, Vienna sausage, etc.) makes the cost of mailing prohibitive. Canned foods are also subject to quality loss at these high temperatures.
Crackers, cereal and trail mixes, and beef jerky are other low moisture foods that would ship well.
Popped popcorn or puffed cereal may be used as edible packing material.
Storage of the food or other items and disposal of packaging materials in Saudi Arabia should also be considered. That special Christmas tin is not likely to find its way home!
There are some items which cannot be mailed to military personnel in the Persian Gulf because of Saudi Arabian customs and postal regulations. These include alcohol, pork products, political materials, sexually explicit material, or material depicting nude or seminude people.
