Anne’s A the first time. Then they defeated Central before losing again to STAB-A in the final.
Among public schools Central fared the best, defeating Stuart’s Draft and Page before succumbing to STAB-A. Then Central defeated Madison and Luray before losing to the Wakefield-A team.
Rappahannock’s coach Roger Fliftchum said that competition has become much more intense since Rappahannock first received an invitation from public TV station WVPT to compete in Pop Quiz. That year Rappahannock rather easily defeated St. Anne’s in the first round of the competition. Eighth grader Johnathan Watson was the star of that team.
Mr. Flinchum suggested that St. Anne’s just selected four of their strong senior students to go up against Rappahannock that year, while Rappahannock had a competition involving the whole school to pick members of the team and then had several practice sessions before the competition.
This year’s St. Anne’s teams have a much more intense preparation. Their seventh period in school is an activity period and students
