The board accepted Dr. Gangers recommendation that the PTO set as a goal funding the teachers’ share of a course in “Instructional Strategies” which emphasizes cooperative learning, to be taught in the spring semester as part of the masters’ degree program offered through Shenandoah College. Thirty of Rappahannock’s teachers are enrolled in . the program. The teachers’ share of the cost of the course comes to $4,500. The course was previously scheduled to be taught in the fall 1991 semester.
Then he suggested that the PTO fund stipends for the rest of the teaching staff to take part in in-service training in cooperative learning during the next school { year. That would cost $7,200, he.said.
Dr. Gangel said, “I fully endorse the" proposal to move in that direction. This is the fastest way to respond.” He also said he would schedule an in-service seminar on thinking skills during the coming school year with follow-up in the 1992-93 school year.
