In my food and nutrition column this week, I’d like to share answers to several calls that have come in plus several recipes from the Culinary Hearts Cooking Class.

Holiday foods

It’s turkey time! The Extension Office is always glad to answer questions from consumers on nutrition and cooking. The USD A publication on “Talking About Turkey” tells you how to buy, store, thaw, stuff and prepare a turkey, and answers the most common questions.

There are several other sources of information for consumers:

• Meat and Poultry Hotline operated by USDA. The number is 1800-535-4555. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST for individual questions. Taped messages are available around the clock.
