The town of Washington had lots of outof-town visitors join local residents for the annual July 4th celebration.
“The person who traveled the farthest for the 1991 celebration was probably Sarah Miller from New Zealand,” said Helen Smith, Extension agent.
Sarah is a 4-H IFYE (International Fowr-H Youth Exchange) delegate who is visiting in Rappahannock County for three weeks during her six-month exchange program in the U.S.
Sarah’s host family is Kent, Nancy, Alice, and Rob Reeve. Alice and Rob are members of the 4-H Livestock Club.
Sarah, who is 23 years old, is a member of the Young Farmers Club, an educational organization for 16 to 25 year olds.
The Young Farmers Club is sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture in New Zealand, just as the 4-H Clubs are sponsored by the Extension Service, an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
