“The American lamb burgers and sliced lamb sandwiches were excellent,” she said.
Her family has lamb or mutton three or four times each week since lamb is a staple of the diet in New Zealand. The Randall Updike family donates lamb that the 4-H Livestock Club sells each year at their fundraiser.
Ms. Miller also commented that she was amazed at the price of New Zealand lamb in American supermarkets when she went grocery shopping with a previous host family.
Ms. Miller, who has a degree in agriculture, is engaged in farming with her father and works as a substitute teacher during the school year. Her family has a 600-acre farm and raises 1,500 sheep, 150 pigs and horses.
She will speak to the 4-H Livestock Club at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, July 15 at the Extension office. She will present a slide program on her family’s farming operation and her Young Farmer activities. The public is invited.
