To the Editor:

I just heard (WJFK) Howard Stem’s recording of the raucous and pushy gay pride paraders in New York. He claims they engaged in physical displays, cross-dressing, S&M demonstrations and other ridiculous put-ons. Also according to his report, detractors lined the curbs chanting, “Thank God for AIDS.”

Before the Sixties was quite dead, Bob Dylan sang “Don’t follow leaders and watch the parking meters” - words which prove prophetic today. Pot busts for minor traffic infractions are frequent. And it is obvious that gays who wish for social respect and civil equality are being badly misled. Wide-scale infiltration of protest groups began at the time of the Free Speech Movement in Berkeley. Sometime afterward the government decided to provide deep cover leaders for the opposition to render it relatively ineffectual ... or worse, in the case of gays.
