As she nears 85, Mary Quaintance Snead has slowed down some, but not much.
She still plays bridge regularly, visits friends who are homebound or in nursing homes, and attends meetings of the Episcopal Church Women and the retired teachers’ organization.
However, the education of Rappahannock’s children remains Mrs. Snead’s passion. She retired in 1977 following 48 years serving as teacher and principal in Rappahannock schools.
She says she cut back on her activities when her late husband, Dr. John Snead, became ill. Since his death, she says she has been “getting repairs.”
Early in June she had an operation to remove a cataract. The other eye was operated on three years ago. In late June she was in the hospital for an operation to repair a knee. This was also her second knee operation.
She found both operations easier the second time. The last time her knee was operated on, she said the doctors did the sort of operation they do on injured football players.
