A number of new laws affecting Virginia motorists took effect July 1. Following is a summary of some of those laws.
License Plates • Two new license plates will be offered to the public in July. They are the Wildlife conservationist plate and the Military Assault Forces plate.
The Wildlife Conservationist plate will be offered to the general public for $25 per year in addition to regular registration fees. After the first 1,000 plates have been issued, $15 of this fee will go to the game protection fund to be used for the protection of Virginia’s Wildlife.
The military assault forces plate is offered to individuals who have been part of a military assault force. The plates will cost $10 per year in addition to regular registration fees.
Applicants who are still in military service must bring in a letter of certification from the commanding officer which states the applicant’s eligibility. Applicants no longer in service must submit a DD214 (seperation papers issued by the Defense Department which reflect participation in an assault force) with the DMV application. Motor Vehicle Dealers • Motor vehicle dealer advertising must clearly and conspicuously display freight and destination charges if they are not included in the advertised sale price of the vehicle.
