Ice cream social
with the Switzers
The Amissville United Methodist Church will hold an ice cream social at 5 p.m., Sunday, July 14 and everyone is invited.
Following the ice cream social the Switzer Family Singers, well known in the Amissville area, will perform.
Janet Herman
wins scholarship
Janet Lynn Herman was awarded the David Semmes Memorial Fund scholarship by the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection at the Rappahannock High graduation last month.
The annual award is a $1,000 grant for a student who wants to enter an environmental science field.
Birney returns
from deployment
Marine Cpl. Leonard C. Birney, son of Leonard H. and Elizabeth Birney of Amissville, recently returned from deployment to the Middle East in support of Operation Desert Storm while serving with 4th Marine Division out of Quantico.
The 1977 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, Annandale, joined the Marine Corps Reserves in March 1988.
