When she started physical therapy, it was very painful. This time she was up exercising the same day as the operation. “I figured my football playing days were over, so I had the other kind of operation,” she said.
In 1929 she came to teach at Sperryville school after two years teaching in Arlington. She was coming back to the county where she was born and where she had attended school starting in the one-room Smedley School in Gid Brown Hollow.
She was seven when she started school. Her brother, who was six, and her little sister, who was four, started with her.
