While cities and towns on the border of Rappahannock County recorded temperatures near the 100degree mark, Rappahannock’s cool mountain breezes helped to keep the temperatures low through the Fourth of July weekend.
Local weather watcher Dennis Wingfield of Sperryville recorded 1.02 inches of rainfall on July 4th.
“It rained off and on from 8 a.m. until just after 11 p.m.,” he said, adding the scattered rain fell harder at some points during the day and more lightly at others.

against Strasburg
The Rappahannock Monarchs split a doubleheader against the Strasburg A’s at Pine Knot Field in Sperryville last Sunday.
The Monarchs won the first game, 10-8, and dropped the second, 9-6.
They play Stephens City at home next Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Monarchs are now 6-5 in the Apple Valley league, still in contention for first place.
