Serious series steeplechasing competition will be renewed at the Saturday, April 4 running of the Old Dominion Hounds Point-to-Point at Ben Venue Farm.
Point standings are close in the owner-rider hurdles and the ladies timber series, making for some of the season’s most exciting racing.
Splits of at least two races are expected, and a full day of top Commonwealth racing is certainly in store.
The owner-rider hurdle contest has attracted a slew of entrants, all fresh from a week off. Points leaders Jolly River, with William Russell, and Military Pride, with John Branscome, head the field of eight.
Jolly River won the season opener at Casanova Feb. 22, with Military Pride fourth. Military Pride came right back and won his next two starts, each time beating Jolly River into second. A repeat duel is set up for Saturday.
Spoilers for another fierce stretch drive will include Hot Rodder and new owner Harry Wight. The gelding is a former Dogwood Stable color-bearer and was an allowance winner over hurdles for that owner.
