The high school and schools in Orange and Culpeper counties as well as Germanna Community College have also applied for grants to have computer records of their holdings sent to Richmond. That way patrons will be able to borrow from nearby libraries through interlibrary loan.
Once the library’s current collection of about 18,000 volumes are available on the computer, it will be necessary to upgrade the CD ROM when new volumes are added. The grant will cover this expense the first year. After that it will cost about $500 each year, librarian Nikki Lynch said.
This is another part of the library’s effort to take advantage of computer technology. Eventually books will be checked out using a bar code scanner. The library is also working on being able to have access to information available by computer at the high school.
At last Thursday’s meeting the board also discussed the driveway and parking area. The board members agreed that the parking area needs to be enlarged. They did not agree that it yet needs to be paved.
