She said living and working at local theater in Rappahannock is a doubleedged sword. “In one way, it’s great, because you know they’re going to love yoi) no matter what. It’s great to have that support, but at the same time it’s really scary. You begin to recognize certain people's laughs. ... In some senses it’s like a big, extended family and you want to stimulate people— not just entertain them.”
Having worked in New York, said Mrs. Day, the more accepting critical audience in Rappahannock is quite a contrast. “When you live in a small town, people are going to say, even if there are things they didn’t epjoy, ‘Oh, it’s interesting.’ ”
Directing “Bedroom Farce," she said, opened her eyes to the amount of work—all of it volunteer— that goes into community productions. “I really had no idea what was involved,” she said.
