Irani won the match 6-1. The Wakefield Tennis Team competed in five other singles and three doubles matches but, despite enthusiasm, the players were unable to defeat the RMA players.
The girls’ soccer team faced off against Word of Life School in Springfield this week. The first goal of the game was scored by Mary Beth Williams of Flint Hill. Word of Life was able to make four consecutive goals before Wakefield finally scored again thanks to the talent of Stephanie Tomeden, also of Flint Hill.
Coach Tim Buchanan was extremely pleased with his young team’s effort. He commented that his players definitely have the skill level required for successful competition in the league, but that they were exposed to some things that require additional practice. The team of 16 players, composed primarily of students in grades seven and eight, has nine remaining games scheduled in addition to the final tournament.
The boys volleyball team did not fare as well, losing 4-0 against Word of Life. This season marks the first year that Wakefield has fielded a boys’ volleyball team. The group has been practicing eagerly under the guidance of coaches Rob Saville and Toni Updike. The team has five additional matches scheduled for this spring and in anticipation has stepped up their training schedule to
