Scherer at library
Ray Scherer, a former White House correspondent for NBC News, will be the featured speaker at a "Book and Author" evening sponsored by the Rappahannock County Library at 8 p.m. on Friday, June 26.
A Rappahannock resident since 1975, Mr. Scherer will speak on the rigors of covering presidents for TV as well as on how electronic journalism has transformed American politics. He was White House correspondent for NBC during the Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy and Johnson administrations.
There is no admission charge for the event in the community room at the library. Refreshments will be served.
Amissville carnival
The Amissville Volunteer Fire Company is underway. The carnival started last night and will continue through Saturday, June 27. Features will include a parade at 7 p.m. on Thursday evening, crowning of the queen and court at 9 p.m. on Friday and the awarding of the grand prizes and numerous other prizes Saturday night. A midway complete with exciting rides and concessions, a food stand and drink booth and a variety of games and , prizes round out the carnival atmosphere.
Bike parade on 4th
Washington's Fourth of July events will include a Bicycle Parade for children ages 5 to 15 years. Kids are invited to decorage their bicycles and ride through the streets of Washington. Prizes will be awarded for age groups, and Uncle Sam will lead the parade. Line up for the parade will be at 3:45 p.m. behind the county jail.
