Rappahannock’s Democratic and Republican party leaders are not counting on the Ross Perot candidacy fading as the election year goes on.
“We’re going to take it seriously even if he’s not a declared candidate,” Ron Frazier, chairman of the local Republican Party, said.
“It’s possible he will fade as people start asking questions,” Mr. Frazier continued. “The American people are going to demand that he be more specific.” He added that the parties cannot “wait and see” if the Perot candidacy fades. “We’ll just run the campaign, and if he wants to be involved, he’s going to have to participate.”
He said that Mr. Perot is trying to protray himself(as someone who has not previously been involved in politics, “but that’s not true. He’s supported liberal Democrats. I don’t think he is in tune with the rank and file of people in Rappahannock. He’s not some new white knight on a white horse. He’s just another face from the same political organizations.” .
