However, the cool damp weather while apples were blooming meant that bees were not out pollinating blossoms at normal rates, and there will be a smaller than usual apple crop. Mr. Williams said the apple crop will be about “20 percent off’ with Red delicious and York varieties especially hard hit.
For farmers trying to make hay, this spring has been frustrating. The abundant rainfall has produced an excellent hay crop. However, it has been very difficult to get the crop cured and baled without having it rained on.
Mr. Williams said those who waited until last week to cut their hay should have a “good crop.”
