ancestors
To the Editor:
I am researching my ancestors from Fauquier County. My greatgrandfather was Maurice Wendell Holmes (1883-1956). He married Ella Estelle Moreland (1880-1951).
His father was Monroe J. Holmes (1837-1897), who married Bettie M. Olinger (1856-1913). Their children were Maurice, Ola, Lester, Cecil, Raymond, Hulda, Lula May and Stonewall Jackson.
When Monroe died, Maurice was quite young, but Monroe’s father, whose name may have been Randolph Holmes, was still alive when my grandfather, Oliver Wendell Holmes, was young. Monroe and his father both served in the Civil War and were from Bealeton.
