What is required is quite a lot of paperwork. She has daily deposit slips to make up, and weekly, monthly and quarterly reports. Some days the only person she sees while the post office is open is the rural route carrier.
When customers do come in, they visit for a while. She goes out with them to their cars. Many have praised her flowers and she says she has shared clippings from her plants with many of them.
“I’ve met many interesting people,” she said. “I’ve loved every minute of it. I’ve had no bad experiences, but it’s time to do something else. I think I can contribute more to so many young lives.”
But, Mrs. Cannon said she hopes a way will be found to continue to have a post office in Castleton.
