family services coordinator visits with the families and helps them develop individualized family plans. She explained, for example, that the family of a child who has a tendency to hit other children might be encouraged to help the child develop a vocabulary to express his feelings. A lot of parenting skills are taught by the family services coordinator.

In addition Mrs. Sharp said, parents are encouraged to volunteer to help at the center at least eight hours a month. This gives them an opportunity to see their children interacting with other children and the teachers.

Many things have delayed getting to use the modular classroom. Weather held up delivery and installation of extra drain lines. On Monday Mrs. Sharp was waiting for the power company to hook up the electricity so they could get a final occupancy permit.

During the day the pre-K’s and three and four year olds alternate between one of the classrooms and the large community room. Once the modular classroom is available they will use that and the community room, and the two-year-olds will move into their old classroom, giving that group almost twice as much space as they have had. Then the infant and toddler group can use the former two year olds room which will enable them to have one space for sleeping and another for noisier activities.
