"We have, typically, 150-200 projects in a year, involving over 100,000 square feet of glass,” Steubing said.
“Our most business-intense area of operation ranges from Texas and Chicago eastward,” Steubing said, “butt California has emerged lately as a prime source of work, and South Carolina and Florida, following the destruction from hurricane Hugo in 1989 and Andrew in 1992, have also been busy.”
Steubing said She'nandoah’s artisans are traditionalists, preferring the tried and true techniques and materials of their art over modern adaptations.
“Administratively we’re a modern company, computerized and streamlined, but in the work rooms you’ll still find the same lead knives, hand-mixed pigments and mouthblown glass that have characterized stained glass studios for centuries."
One concession to modernization is the firing kilns, said Mark Russell, production manager for new windows.
