An estimated one million roses will be sold in Virginia for Valentine’s Day, Sunday, Feb. 14. Most of these long stem roses, at least three fourths, will be growm right here in Virginia.
The cost for these floral favorites is expected to run from $35 to $65 for a dozen long stem roses, according to Robyn Kealey, production manager of Kealey-Johnson Wholesale Florists in Abingdon, one of the state’s largest rose growers.
Kealey-Johnson and two other greenhouse growers, Zieger and Sons Inc. of Cape Charles on the Eastern Shore and Sunset Hills Farm here in Rappahannock County, grow' and sell Virginia’s Finest roses.
