These patients should be ambulatory and able to get in and out of a car, she added.
Right now local patients are receiving cancer treatments at hospitals in Winchester, Fairfax, Fredericksburg, and Charlottesville.
Mrs. Sims knows what these treatments are like. Nearly three and a half years ago she went through the regimen of daily visits to the hospital for radiation treatment. She still gets a checkup every four montWs and remains in excellent health.
Rut she remembers the grind and she is determined to help others who face the same problem. "I found in December that I was looking for patients to drive and now we need volunteer drivers,” she said.
Her hope is to have enough volunteers signed up so that none of them will be overly taxed.
