Mr. Brown, who has a long assocation with this sport, will discuss the history of the Rappahannock Hunt and will explain such terms as The Meet, Moving Off, the manners Of the hunt, and language related to it, the training and use of dogs, and more.
Many of us who have enjoyed the Hunt Races at Sperryville have understood little about the preparation for participation.
It is interesting to note that fox hunting with hounds is alleged by Alex Mackay-Smith in American Fox-Hound: 1747-1967, to have begun “...in the upper Rappahannock Valley (which includes today’s Rappahannock Hunt territory) and is the cradle of the American Fox Hound.”
