In a recent news article you implied that the recent large gathering of Republicans at the Amissville Firehouse was something new and out of the ordinary.
Not so.
Republicans have been around and active in Rappahannock County for some time. In the Rappahannock News of Thursday, March 22, 1984, in a page one article that had a large carryover to page 18, your reporter, Daphne Hutchinson, reported attendance of “around 300” at a mass meeting that had been held two days eariler. That mass meeting of March 20, 1984, was to elect a slate of delegates to the State Republican Convention. The vote at that meeting, of people who stated, in order to vote, that they were Republicans, was about 250 for the win
