Sewage systems at both schools will need expensive changes to meet state guidelines, Superintendent David Gangel told the School Board last week.
The water board of the Department of Environmental Quality (formerly the State Water Control Board) issued the elementary school a permit renewal to operate for four more years in August but attached conditions, Assistant Superintendent Robert Chappell said.
The school system must install ground monitoring wells at the school to determine if the lagoon is leaking, he said. Dr. Gangel said the plan for the wells must be submitted by November 11, but he is hoping that actually drilling the wells can wait until the next budget.
