Crossroads 199? Festival-Soil and Soul: Sustaining (Jut Community - Oct. 8-10. In case of haven’t heard, Ki Theatre, The Rappahannock Farmers Association and The Virginia Association For Biological Farming are inviting county farmers to participate in a Fanner’s Market to be held in the Town of Washington on Saturday, Oct. 9, rain or shine. Rappahannock growers are encouraged to bring pumpkins, Fall ornamentals, gift baskets, late season vegetable, dried flowers and apples or whatever other agricultural products they may have on hand. Crafts, drinks and lunch foods are also appropriate items that can be offered for sale.
I hope area fruit and vegetable grower’s will jump at this chance to benefit from the outstanding efforts put forth by the Crossroads Committee to promote this festival. The timing of the festival could not be better as tourism will peak in the county at or near this Columbus Day weekend as leaf watchers invade the area.
In addition to the Farmers Market, the Crossroads Festival will hold an old fashioned square dance and pie auction, a hometown barbecue, a potluck brunch and a music concert with John McCutcheon. There will also be farm tours and farm workshops.
Farmers need to remember that the Farmer’s Market is for the day of Saturday, Oct. 9 only and a registration fee of $15 is required. Market participants are responsible for bringing their own tables, chairs and items of sale. Crossroad volunteers will provide reserved spaces, publicity and hand-made signs to the vendors. Deadline for market registration is Friday, Oct. 1. Interested folks should contact Mr. Lyt Wood at 675-1088. For additional information contact the Rappahannock Extension Office at 675-3619.
